Brief History

PittRadio was created on September, 2001, as an average, mini website promoting mainly independent alternative and hard rock/heavy metal artists of eclectic and experimental styles through a station page known as the "Bottom 40," created on MP3.com (1996-2002). Dozens of daily requests from artists wanting to be included were received, expanding the Bottom 40 stations to other genres such as jazz, electronica, hip hop/rap, and pop/rock.

On February, 2002, PittRadio abanded its stations on MP3.com to become a stand-alone web music site, providing on-demand music playlist streams on 7 major genres (blues, world/folk, latin, country, easy listening, classical, poertry/spoken word, and comedy were added later). Since then, PittRadio has been on a non-stop campaign to promote the few artists that were willing to take part in the first stages to a new generation of music lovers who seek new sounds, sights, vibes, and culture. With the help of many artists and music fans, PittRadio has grown exponentially and well-received with open arms.
