emo folk, folk music, folk rock, meet the folkers

howdy. I'm george the scruffy river rat from platte river rain. just got here the other day, finaly got a profile and music n stuff up, and I noticed there wasn't a single entry on the world/folk board.
well, I couldn't let that go, so here's some random thoughts.
we(platte river rain) have been called a lot of things, but they always seem to contain the word folk.
just a few of them in my thread title.
just last month in kansas city ( we're from nebraska) at the north vs south music festival, someone coined the term "street folk" for us. we liked that one, having all spent our share of time on the street.
but in general, I think folk is a misunderstood and mis-used word.
folk music is music of the people. any people. all people.
to, for example, assume that all people are "peter, paul, and mary" is absurd.
hip-hop is folk music.
southern rock is folk music.
quetzan flutes are folk music.
and I suppose platte river rain is folk music as well.
we tell stories.
not always in the traditional sense of telling stories.
and not just stories of some arbritrary group of people.
or neccesarily people as in "homo sapiens".
emo? sure, there's emotion involved
rock? folk music can rock.
americana? admittedly, we were all born in the united states, whatever that means.
anyway, I started a thread, and I'm sayin hello from platte river rain!
